Schwartz Rings

My friends and I – like any other cool friend group – like to do movie nights every so often. As part of these movie nights, we started to watch through all of the Mel Brooks movies one at a time. One night, we were talking about how it would be cool to have Schwartz rings that we could wear together. I looked up the rings to see if we could buy them, but they either cost a lot for what they were or they didn’t look quite right. Instead, I figured that I could model and print them myself.

This was at the end of my freshman year, so any CAD that I knew, I had taught myself. For personal projects, I tend to use Fusion 360 and that’s what I used for these. It was a fun project because overall it’s a relatively simple design, but making curvy and more natural shapes is not easy in CAD programs. It was a challenge to get the S exactly how I wanted it, but I worked on it until I eventually got it to my satisfaction.

I was pretty proud of how the rings turned out and my friends absolutely loved them. Now we try to remember to bring them to any gathering we have together (although usually at least one of us forgets). Even though it’s something so simple, it’s definitely one of my favorite things that I’ve made.
